Common Headaches

Headaches

Headaches seem to be a primary concern among several individuals.  Dr. Kaput has successfully assisted many patients in finding relief from their headaches through chiropractic care.  The reasoning behind this is most headaches have muscular or spinal components and Dr. Kaput has been trained to identify and treat these components.  In fact, chiropractic care offers a safe, natural, and homeopathic treatment for headaches rather than taking pharmaceuticals to address just the symptoms.

Common Headache Types

Cervicogenic Headaches

These types of headaches stem from structures and tissues in the cervical portion of the spine or the neck portion. The headache causes a constant, dull, but strong pain and most commonly affects the eye region and the upper neck.  Lasting anywhere from 1 to 3 days, the headache may be accompanied by vomiting, ringing in the ears, light sensitivity, dizziness, and nausea.  Chiropractic care is the best and most safe way to eliminate these types of headaches.  Dr. Kaput will address the source of the problem rather than just take care of the symptoms.

Muscle Tension Headaches

The most common headache types are muscle tension headaches.  These headaches are caused by the continuous contraction of muscles that lie within the head and neck region.  These continuous contractions are usually a combination of cervical/neck misalignments, poor posture, poor sleeping habits, emotional stress, prolonged sitting, and many other related activities.  These headaches have a mild to moderate intensity and last anywhere from hours to days and pain usually stems from the base of the skull or temporal regions of the head and will spread to surrounding muscles.  Combing chiropractic care, therapeutic stretches and exercises, diet and nutrition, and massage, Dr. Kaput can help you overcome muscle tension headaches and allow you to feel your very best.

Post-Traumatic Headaches

These types of headaches are caused by whiplash or blow to the head injuries within the head or neck region.  Early chiropractic treatment allows for a better outcome and less scar tissue development.  It also serves to rule out possible hematomas that may have developed, which can be fatal.  Dr. Kaput is trained and can help successfully relief the affected areas and help the patient feel immediate relief.

Drug-Induced Headaches

Drug induced headaches are ironic because many medications such as aspirin, Tylenol, and Excedrin taken to address the symptoms of headache pain can actually increase the headache intensity or create new headaches.  The pain individuals experience is usually dull and non-throbbing and affects both sides of the head.  The usually are present first thing the morning and carry on throughout the day.  The more medications taken on a daily basis, the more likely individuals will suffer from drug-induces headaches. Dr. Kaput urges future patients to seek chiropractic care to address the root of their headache causes before reaching for medications to resolve the symptoms.

Migraine Headaches

Migraines tend to follow a hereditary course and more often than not, other family members usually will get them too.  These types of headaches combine muscle tension and cervicogenic factors that both contribute the intensity and frequency of the migraine. The pain begins as a throbbing pain on one side of the head and tends to reach its highest in about a half hour.  Migraines are often accompanied by nausea and vomiting as well as sensitivities to light and sound.  Through chiropractic care, Dr. Kaput has helped several patients who suffer from migraines.

Cluster Headaches

These types of headaches are common among middle-aged male smokers and one of the most painful types of headaches.  These headaches awaken individuals from 1 to 3 hours after falling asleep and typically last about 1 hour.  The pain is deep, non-throbbing, and severe stemming behind the ear and radiating to the forehead and temporal regions.  The attacks occur frequently over several days to weeks.  While they cluster from days to weeks, they disappear for months to years before returning. Changes in lifestyle choices and chiropractic care can help alleviate these types of headaches.

Chiropractic Treatment of Headaches

Chiropractic care has proven to be successful in the treatment of most headache types.  The reasoning behind this is that most headaches stem from soft tissue, predominantly in the neck, or within neural pathways.  Since chiropractors mainly focus on soft tissues of the spine, many headaches can be successfully managed through chiropractic care.
